Bearbrick Figures: coveted collector's items
In 2001, the World Character Convention 12 took place in Tokyo. Medicom Toy handed out the Bearbrick figures as a giveaway to visitors - and so began the success story of the little bears. But what exactly is so special about Bearbrick?
The little bears are usually sold in so-called "blind boxes". This means that the buyer only knows which bear will be revealed after unpacking. Each figurine is unique. Medicom Toy regularly works with artists to offer limited edition figurines in special designs. In addition, the Japanese cartoon figures are now also available in limited editions without a blind box, so that you can choose one of the creative and artistic designs in advance.
Bearbrick: Unique design objects with cult status
The collectible figurines Bearbrick, which consist of nine parts - head, torso, hips, arms, hands and legs with movable joints, are available in various materials, but are most commonly made of plastic. They come in different sizes, with the original design measuring seven centimetres. However, figures measuring 400 percent (28 centimeters high) and 1000 percent (70 centimeters high) are now also produced.
Each figure is unique, which is what makes them so desirable. The designs are individually created so that they always vary slightly. This is particularly the case with the collaborations with artists. The designs are applied to the surface of a water bath as a wafer-thin layer of paint. The blank figures are then immersed in this water bath. The layer of paint covers the Bearbrick figure like a skin and thus varies in appearance. Limited editions ensure that the adorable Bearbrick bears retain their value and are very popular as collector's items in the art and fashion scene.
Limited editions and cool cartoon bears
Pop culture has a major influence on the pop art designs of the collector's items. This is why Medicom Toy regularly works with professionals from the worlds of fashion, music and pop culture. This results in artistic and extravagant cartoon designs that are tailored to current trends and movements in these areas.
Bearbrick-The figures reflect the ultimate zeitgeist - and appeal to people from the entire design and creative world. In addition to classic cult figures such as those from the Hanna Barbera series, which has been supplemented by the American cartoon series Wacky Races, or Bearbricks with Oasis photos, there are also currently trendy cult figures in an all-over design. The exclusive bears are therefore the perfect addition to an existing art collection or a unique statement piece.
