Designer fashion from Stone Island - A vision of the future
In the 19th century, young Giuseppe Rivetti was born with a passion for weaving and founded his own woolen mill. Together with his brothers, he develops innovative fabrics at the time to make them more efficient. During the post-war period, this wool mill buys the Turin-based GFT (Gruppo Finanziario Tessile) group and develops ready-to-wear clothing for the first time. However, due to a severe oil crisis and the resulting financial crisis, the company is forced to reorient itself. At this time, up-and-coming fashion designers from Italy are still a gap in the market.
GFT becomes a licensee for up-and-coming brands in the Italian fashion world, such as Giorgio Armani or Valentino - Italian fashion gains popularity through creativity and entrepreneurial skills. In 1975 Carlo Rivetti joins the family business GFT and introduces sportswear to the portfolio. For this purpose, the fashion house joins forces with C.P. Company, owned by Massimo Osti and including the label Stone Island. This collaboration takes both houses far and is the cornerstone of the success of Stone Island. Rivetti buys out C.P. Company in 1993 and Osti decides to leave the company. Rivetti meets designer Paul Harvey, who creates a full twenty-four collections for Stone Island before parting ways with the label in 2008. Since then, a multi-member design team has been designing for the brand.

Starting with innovative fabrics such as a rubberized cotton, some of which required special industrial machines to be built, the label continues to develop futuristic products today, many of which come with patents.
Whether it's a jacket made of stainless steel, a fabric that changes color with temperature or the processing of glass particles in the outer material of a coat - every collection piece from Stone Island is an innovative masterpiece that changes the fashion world. For each collection, about 150 prototypes are designed, 85 of which are selected and produced, and then it is decided which pieces will be included in the collection.
