The 2025 traditional costume looks for men Buyer's Picks

What characterizes a successful traditional look this season? How do you combine lederhosen correctly? And what are the trends in traditional costume fashion for men in 2025? In the big Buyer's Pick, Johann Maurer, Head of Department Men's Costume at LODENFREY, presents the season's traditional costume fashion and gives tips for the complete look.

The heart of the traditional costume is the lederhosen - made from high-quality deerskin and with a perfect fit, they are a purchase for the ages. The rest of the traditional outfit is put together around the lederhosen, where the fit, materials and workmanship are important.
The change in traditional costume fashion can only be observed in small nuances. Modern traditional costume is based on historical or regional models and reinterprets some elements in a contemporary way.

The general trend in 2025 is towards lighter-colored lederhosen and slip-on shirts as well as shirts with stand-up collars and tucks. The colors of the shirts are classic: white, light blue and striped.

Leather trousers made from deerskin or goatskin form the basis of every traditional look. My tip for buying them: look for high quality and a first-class fit and try out traditional codes. The rest of the Trachten outfit is put together around the lederhosen, including a shirt, vest, cardigan or jacket, socks and Haferl shoes.

Leather trousers should fit snugly and end above the knee. Leather gives way when worn, which should be taken into account when buying. While chamois-tanned deerskin trousers give way by about one size when worn, goatskin leather trousers only widen a little.

At LODENFREY we offer special pieces from exclusive collaborations with brands such as Gottseidank, Habsburg or Meindl. Every year, for example, we exclusively stock a very special pair of lederhosen from Meindl. We also have special shirts from van Laack and a specially designed Wiesn knitwear collection from Litzlfelder.

Basically, less is more. But when used correctly, accessories can demonstrate a sense of trend and style. For example, with a charivari, a traditional hat made of rabbit hair with pins or hat feathers individualized. A stylish handkerchief with a traditional motif, knee-high socks or hand-knitted loafers in solid and plain colors complete the traditional look for men. The color of the socks can be matched to the embroidery color of the lederhosen or the color of the vest. Haferl shoes are still chosen to go with both light and dark lederhosen in classic black.
Both complement the traditional costume wonderfully. Short jackets are a classic match for lederhosen, while longer city jackets add a contemporary twist to the outfit. Modern colors such as blue, olive, grey or black provide fresh accents. If you prefer a more festive look, go for a velvet jacket - less traditional, but perfect for an elegant appearance at the Oktoberfest. For a more relaxed look, wear cable or plain knit cardigans, embellished with staghorn or coin buttons.

There are no bans in fashion, only do's. The do's include paying attention to good quality and fit and not dressing up.
The don'ts include socks and red checked shirts. If you feel insecure, skip an accessory and feel your way around.
